Pergamon was a rich and powerful ancient Greek city located in modern-day. It served as the capital of the Attalid Kingdomduring the Hellenistic period. Famous for its steep hillside theater, massive library, and the ancient medical center known as the Asklepieion, it became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2014

Key Highlights of Pergamon

• The Acropolis: Sits high above the modern town. It features the steepest ancient theater in the world, the foundations of the Altar of Zeus, and royal palaces.
• The Asklepieion: An early healing sanctuary and medical center where therapies included sound, water, and sleep.
• The Red Basilica: A massive Roman temple originally built to worship Egyptian gods.
• Parchment Invention: Legend says parchment (charta pergamena) was invented here because Egypt stopped exporting papyrus to rival their great library.

11:00     Our day tour commences with picking up our guests from hotels in Selcuk and Kusadasi. We then drive to the site of Pergamon where we will commence our tour, which includes:

• Asclepion and Health Centre
• The Acropolis
• The Sanctuary of Trajan (also known as the Trajaneum)
• The Sanctuary of Athena
• The Upper Agora
• The Roman baths complex
• The Arsenal
• The Hellenistic Theatre with a seating capacity of 10,000. This had the steepest seating of any known theatre in the ancient world
• The Temple of Dionysus
• Original location of Zeus Altar
• The Red Basilica, originally a temple of Serapis
• Lunch

18:30     Arrive back in Izmir

 19:00     Arrive back in Selcuk

19:30     Arrive back in Kusadasi
