Laodicea was established by the Seleucid King Antiochus II, who named the city after his wife. It grew to become a prosperous Roman city, renowned for its production of woolen and cotton fabrics. The Book of Revelations references the Laodicea Church as the “Lukewarm Church of Apocalypse.” Located just 10 kilometers from Pamukkale, Laodicea is a significant site in Christian history and is well worth visiting.
Pamukkale is famous for its stunning white cascades of calcium springs, which are formed from 17 hot water springs. When the hot spring water reaches the surface, it loses its carbon dioxide and calcium bicarbonate to form the beautiful white cascades of Pamukkale. This natural wonder is a sight to behold and a true feast for the eyes. Visitors can stroll through Pamukkale and even take a dip in the ancient pool’s healing waters, surrounded by ancient columns.
Hierapolis is an impressive ancient city built above the hot spring waters of Pamukkale and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city was established in the 2nd century BC by the King of Pergamon and later became a Roman city. Hierapolis was renowned for its important sanctuaries and was also a significant trade center, famous for producing purple dye and textiles. Even today, it is still a hub for textile products.
