Tour Itinerary

Day 1: İzmir – Pergamon – Thyatira

Accommodation: Selçuk or Kuşadası
Driving distance: Approximately 380 km

Meet your private guide at İzmir Airport or at your hotel in İzmir or Kuşadası. After a comfortable drive of approximately 1.5 hours, arrive in Pergamon, one of the great cultural centres of the ancient world and a former capital of the Eastern Roman Empire.

At the Acropolis, see the celebrated library, one of Anatolia’s steepest theatres, the Temples of Trajan and Dionysus, the Sanctuary of Demeter, the gymnasium built on terraces and the lower agora. After lunch featuring local specialities, visit the Asclepion, one of the ancient world’s most important medical centres and a place where early psychological treatments were used.

Continue to the Red Basilica, also known as St. John’s Church, before travelling to Thyatira, today known as Akhisar. This ancient city was famous for its purple dyes. Explore the remains of its basilica and Roman architectural fragments, then drive to your hotel in Selçuk or Kuşadası.

Day 2: Ephesus – Pamukkale

After breakfast, visit Ephesus, one of the finest Greco-Roman cities in the ancient world and one of the Seven Churches of Asia. Walk along its impressive marble streets and see the Temple of Hadrian, the Temple of Domitian, Hercules Gate, the magnificent Library of Celsus and the Great Theatre.

Next, visit the House of the Virgin Mary, a peaceful shrine believed by many to have been Mary’s final home. Enjoy lunch at a local Turkish restaurant, then visit the Basilica of St. John, built over the believed burial site of St. John the Evangelist.

In the afternoon, travel approximately 2.5 hours to Pamukkale and check in to your hotel.

Day 3: Pamukkale – Laodicea – Philadelphia – Sardis – İzmir

Driving distance: Approximately 300 km

After breakfast and check-out, visit Laodicea, an important ancient commercial city located on historic trade routes. Discover its ancient streets, walls, temples, stadium, gymnasium, theatres and the remains of the aqueduct that once supplied the city with water.

Continue to Hierapolis through the North Gate of Pamukkale. Explore the vast necropolis, Roman Bath, Domitian Gate, main street and Byzantine Gate. Then admire Pamukkale’s famous white travertine terraces, created by mineral-rich thermal waters. You may also have free time to swim in Cleopatra’s Antique Pool; entrance is optional and not included.

After Pamukkale, travel to Alaşehir to visit the ancient site of Philadelphia, another of the Seven Churches. Continue to Sardis, the former capital of the Lydian Kingdom, and explore its historic church and ancient remains.

At the end of the tour, we will drop you off at your hotel or İzmir Airport.
